How to get started?

You have 2 options...

Option 1 (recommended) : Buy a dedicated sports GPS device.

Without doubt the best way to record your activites is by buying a GPS enabled device which has been designed to not just monitor your physical location but also your heart rate, elevation, temperature and cadence (if you're riding a bike).

Several companies make GPS enabled watched and devices including Timex, Suunto and Garmin. The best GPS units are both small and light although these devices are usually sold at a premium price. For those who don't mind carrying around something a little heavier (hikers, rowers etc.) most older units are suitable and can be picked up for less than $100, just check that the unit can export its activities in some kind of standard format.

See some e-bay listing for the recommended Garmin Forerunner.

Upload your GPX or TCX files to Spedmo by following the prompts once you've started activity tracking!

Option 2 : Install Spedmo on your Android OS phone

For those who don't have a dedicated GPS device many new Android phones include a GPS reciever. Although not as powerful as a dedicated sports GPS device a lot of information can be infered just by tracking your location.

Spedmo - Activity Tracking can be freely downloaded from the Android Market by checking the lifestyle section.

After installing the Spedmo - Activity Tracking on your phone you can simply record activities and synchronise them with Spedmo to view and share your activities online.
