There is a house thermal right behind the church. Beware the very tall trees of the forest park
Take off is located on the hill across the lake, behind the church. Take the road from the pub and go in an anti-clockwise direction around the lake... follow the track up around the side of the ridge and behind... climb up here as it is easiest. It will take you about 45-60 minutes to get to a suitable take off area on the top. The better launch areas are further to the southwest. Best landing areas are between the church and all the trees..... it is rough ground but generally fine for landing in. Gougane Barra is located at the northeastern side of the Kealmanagh Gap between Inchigeelagh village and Bantry Town. Gougane Barra is well signposted a couple of Km off this road. When you see the church on the lake, then you are there.
